Sebuah cerita seram sesuai untuk malam Jumaat ani...

Some years back, there was this BSP offshore guy who ordered a Toyota Supra from NBT. At the time, the Supra was the japanese equivalent to KITT from Knight Rider and this guy special ordered it in midnight black etc to match KITT.

Needless to say he was very excited when he was called one Thursday morning and told that the car had arrived. Since it happened to be his week off, he decided to hitch a ride to Bandar and work on the car registration.

After all the registration was settled, he of course drove around bandar lah, at the time Yaohan was THE place to lepak. He met some friends there and they basically lepak until late night.

At 11pm+ this guy looks at his watch and decided its time to head back to Seria. So he bids his friends goodbye and goes on his way. While driving along the old road to tutong (alum ada highway masa atu), he realizes its malam Jumaat. Kambang cia bulunya... Suddenly the road ahead turns foggy... He tries to think of other things and turns up the stereo.

Just past Tutong town, kambang lagi bulunya... and he senses something in the rear view mirror and he takes a look... Ada this lembaga putih and its tailing his car from behind!! The guy got so shit scared he floors the pedal and just absolutely guns it! He begins to lose this "makhluk" and sees that its no longer in his rear view mirror. He heaves a sigh of relief...

Just as he is about to cross the telisai bridge, the car engine stalls and dies on him... The windows roll down by themselves... By this time, the guy is shittin his pants and baca2 sudah... Before he knows it, the "apparition" is outside his window looking straight at him...

"ADA TISSUE WANG??", screams the apparition. Horrified, this guy immediately hands over the tissue box he had bought earlier that day at Yaohan. The apparition grabs a few sheets and begins to wipe down his sweat. "LAJU kerita mu ani wang eh! Kerita apa kian ni??", questions the apparition. "Sssssupra", said the guy to which the apparition replied....

"LAJU BANAR EH KERITA ANI! BIASANYA KALAU KU MENGUYONG MUTUKA ANI AH, MANA SAMPAI KE JAMBATAN ANI!!"
Glossary (Sorry ah Jewelle hehehe!):
  • Mutuka - Vehicle/Car
  • Menguyong - To chase
  • Makhluk - Being/Creature/Apparition/Spirit
  • Lembaga - As above

If you recall, sometime ago, I was toying with the idea of migrating to the wordpress platform. Today, that idea becomes a reality. The migration to wordpress is complete and all posts from today onwards will be at http://anakbrunei.org Do bear with me for the next couple of weeks while I figure out the ins and outs of wordpress hehe.

This site will remain visible for archive purposes. Thank you and see you over at the new pad!

The House That Jack Built...

I really enjoyed reading Jack's post on Brunei businesses going bust. Absolutely agree that its not all gloom and doom and its just a matter of time before the economy starts pumping again with all those projects slated for the 9th RKN.

My only concern is this, what do we do before then? Aside from jostling for position with arms (and mouths) wide-open, ready for the giant JPKE to award those "mega-projects"?

Anyway, thats boring stuff. I was more excited by the suggestion that Brunei become a retirement village for the rich (and famous?). I like that idea, and I think it can work! Not only as retirement village but also as a residential base for executives from multi-national companies, it would be ideal. With all ASEAN capitals within a short flying distance, these executives could telecommute daily and fly to and from meetings as and when.

In return, they would get a safe, tax-free, and clean environment to bring up their families.

Hadrah

... In the past, hadrah was only performed during weddings, but now it is performed in open events, to greet honoured guests and more significantly to signal the arrival of His Majesty in various events...

... Brunei youths nowadays have done well in preserving the heritage and have even enhanced it. Back then, competition involved only beating of drums and chanting. But now performances are choreographed to make it more attractive and interesting...

... hadrah could be further promoted in Brunei if there is a national association of hadrah set up. "We have a national team for silat and gasing (top spinning), but not for hadrah. We cannot just rely on mukim and schools to promote the activity, it has to be done at a national level...
