Off to Stanford we go!

Yesterday while sending my old buddy Louis off at the airport, I met Charlene Bong and her family who were off to California where Charlene is due to begin her studies in Physics at Stanford University . Her dad (who's a fellow St.Margaret's Alumni) and I are friends and I could see the joy in his eyes when I spoke to him. I couldn't help feeling so proud of her for being the first Bruneian scholar to be awarded a scholarship to study in the US by Brunei Shell . Her long list of accomplishments include representing Brunei in the Asian-Pacific Children Convention in Fukuoka, Japan in 2000, SEAMEO Maths Olympiad in Penang in 2005, and the International Physics Olympiad in Singapore in 2006. Charlene was first featured in the Borneo Bulletin in 1989 for being the first baby to be conceived in Brunei through the IVF treatment. Charlene is one of the earliest IVF (test-tube) babies born in Borneo and her birth in December 1988 at Panaga Hospital was particularly significant at ...

Black Gold...

FPV or Ford Performance Vehicles' 40th Anniversary GT monster. Black Gold bootie-shaking BOSS 290 5.4 litre Quad-Cam 32 valve V8 driven muscle-car dream on wheels. Premier Motors! Can you just bring one in for the heck of it PLEASE! Need a temporary distraction from the testosterone rush... tks to GoD's GiFT! for the following "too good not to re-post" post: Words women use. "Fine" This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up. "Five Minutes" If she is getting dressed, this is half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given 5 more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house. "Nothing" This is the calm before the storm. This means "something" and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with "nothing" usually end in "fine". "Go Ahead" This is a dare, not permission, DON'T DO IT! "Loud Sigh...

Cool Copter...

The rear wing of the Merlin EH101 taken yesterday at Bridex 2007 at ICC. The military version of the EH101 is powered by either three Rolls-Royce Turbomeca RTM322 turboshafts ( UK , Japan , Denmark and Portugal ), or three 1,491 kW General Electric CT7-6 turboshafts ( Italy , Canada , Japan TMP). Engine inlet particle separator systems provide protection when operating in sandy environments. Each engine is supplied by a separate self-sealing fuel tank using dual booster pumps. Each tank holds 1,074 litres of fuel. A fourth tank acts as a reservoir supply, topping up the main tanks during flight. A fifth transfer tank can be added to increase range, as can airborne refuelling. The engines power an 18.59 metre diameter five bladed main rotor. The rotor blades are constructed from carbon/glass with nomex honeycomb and rohacell foam, edged with titanium alloy. Computer control of the engines allows the EH101 to hover reliably in winds of over 80 km/h. Cool bananas...

Vodka breathing Cayenne...

The above pic obviously not taken by yours truly :) More here . This is a Cayenne purpose-built for the 2007 Transsiberia Rally which will run from August 2 - 17. The route starts in Moscow, crosses Siberia, and ends in Ulaanbataar, Mongolia, covering over 6,600 kilometers along the way. Sweeeet... On a rather sad note, today, Mr BR , defacto Brunei blogosphere head-boy , decided to pack it in blogwise and focus his energies on his work and his writings. Thankfully, he will still maintain an online presence via his main site . I am sure many, including yours truly, have made BR one of their online favorites over their early morning coffee. Understandable as your reasons may be for packing it in, I am not alone when I say, "You shall be sorely missed old chap."

Brunei Biker...

In continuing with the humour theme, a news article from a Florida Newspaper (tks Raglan for sending this to me!): When Nathan Radlich's house was burgled, thieves left his TV, his VCR, and even left his watch. What they did take was "generic white cardboard box filled with grayish-white powder." (That at least is the way the police described it.) A spokesman for the Fort Lauderdale police said "that it looked similar to cocaine and they'd probably thought they'd hit the big time." Then Nathan stood in front of the TV cameras and pleaded with the burglars: "Please return the cremated remains of my sister, Gertrude. She died three years ago." Well, the next morning, the bullet-riddled corpse of a drug dealer known as Hoochie Pevens was found on Nathan's doorstep. The cardboard box was there too; about half of Gertrude's ashes remained. And there was this note. It said: "Hoochie sold us the bogus blow, so we wasted Hoochie. Sorry w...

Kampong Ayer Rides...

Update (Jan 21 2006): It looks like we made headlines with our outing! Read all about it here and here ! This morning's outing was definitely a BLAST! The "all-boys" nature of our outings was given a refreshing change with the presence of two lovely ladies (one of whom was da missus who kindly agreed to video the sharpshooters in action heheh *muaaahs*). What started out as a 3 hour outing ended up being a 4 hour guided tour (by our intrepid guide no less!) of Kampong Ayer and its surrounding areas. I had been on a tour of the area aboard the Tanjung Bekarang , but at the time, was too busy attending to the visiting VVIP to take in the sights. Today, it was perfect! Thank you to Bruneian , our excellent guide, fellow sharpshooters , Mr What to do , and our lady companions, and to the crew of Roda Impian Charters , you guys ROCK! More pics to come!
