The 2007 Brunei Open Kicks Off (or is it Tees Off?)

I never really did understand the thrill in whacking a small ball some distance with a club and going after it to whack it some more, and finally getting it into a hole in the middle of nowhere. I still don't get the game of golf , but I'm a tiny minority among the millions if not billions of golfers and golfing-fans out there. Anyway, if I did in fact take up the game, I don't think I'd be anywhere near winning the really handsome prize of US$300,000.00 for the Brunei Open which starts today. I don't really know much about golf and who the big contenders are, but here's wishing them all the best in the tournament and may the best whacker get the most balls in the holes with the least possible number of whacks!

Smarter Yoga

The SMARTER Yoga Flow session organised by the woman and co was an awesome success. The response was so good, they had to change the venue due to space constraint. Hats off to everyone who attended and donated so generously to the SMARTER fund . I'm certain they'll put the money to good use.

Reflecting at Sunset...

Life's Mirror By Madeline Bridges There are loyal hearts, there are spirits brave, There are souls that are pure and true, Then give the world the best you have, And the best will come back to you. Give love, and love to your life will flow, A strength in your utmost need, Have faith, and a score of hearts will show Their faith in your word and deed. Give truth, and your gift will be paid in kind; And honor will honor meet; And a smile that is sweet will surely find A smile that is just as sweet. Give pity and sorrow to those who mourn, You will gather in flowers again The scattered seeds from your thoughts outborne, Though the sowing seemed but vain. For life is the mirror of king and slave, 'Tis just what we are and do; Then give to the world the best you have, And the best will come back to you.

Turn the lights down low...

My absolute favorite shot from a sunset shoot at the beach over the weekend. Taken knee deep in water with just a hint of the final rays of the sunset in the background... Here's an interesting snippet I came across here : "The official website of the Brunei government currently claims the country is hoping to attract one million visitors, doubling the previous year's arrivals. The problem is that the announcement is dated 2000. That's not the only sign that Brunei isn't really in top gear despite the rhetoric. An e-mail to the tourist bureau seeking an interview with a spokesperson was bounced because the mailbox hadn't been emptied. A visit to the office during advertised opening hours found the place shut. All this sounds negative, but in fact it's a plus for those who want a relaxed crowd-free holiday. Make the most of the quiet because the tiny Sultanate at the top of the island of Borneo and hemmed in by the Malaysian states of Sarawak and Sabah, has ...

Brunei Biker...

In continuing with the humour theme, a news article from a Florida Newspaper (tks Raglan for sending this to me!): When Nathan Radlich's house was burgled, thieves left his TV, his VCR, and even left his watch. What they did take was "generic white cardboard box filled with grayish-white powder." (That at least is the way the police described it.) A spokesman for the Fort Lauderdale police said "that it looked similar to cocaine and they'd probably thought they'd hit the big time." Then Nathan stood in front of the TV cameras and pleaded with the burglars: "Please return the cremated remains of my sister, Gertrude. She died three years ago." Well, the next morning, the bullet-riddled corpse of a drug dealer known as Hoochie Pevens was found on Nathan's doorstep. The cardboard box was there too; about half of Gertrude's ashes remained. And there was this note. It said: "Hoochie sold us the bogus blow, so we wasted Hoochie. Sorry w...

AnakBrunei Charity Calendar 2007

Couple of days ago, fellow poklen and rabid blogger Ziq mentioned that he would be placing his order for my calendar. Well Ziq, its time to put your money where your mouth is! Presenting the inaugural, exclusive anakbrunei.org Calendar 2007! It features some of my favorite works from this year. Obviously having to choose only 12 photos out of hundreds means some of my other favorites get left behind... This glossy calendar is printed on photographic quality paper and comes in A4 size ONLY. It's printed individually so you can personalize it with a line of text of your choosing (e.g. names, special message etc) at the bottom. How much is it you ask? Well, it's gonna cost you B$5.00 for each of these babies... WAIT! Before you start thinking its a ripoff, think about this... for every calendar sold, HALF will be donated to SMARTER Brunei - Society for the Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources. Pretty good value considering you will be buyin...

Sunset in the air...

How I wish we had one of these when I was in uni and living in a house with a bunch of mates. It'd have made it so much easier to settle quite a few heated VB fueled discussions I can tell ya!
