Jerudong Park never looked so good...

This was done by a terribly talented young Bruneian. I absolutely love it for the warm fuzzy feeling I get whenever I watch it. Keep em coming ah borg... or should it be ah kong? Or maybe ah king... hehehe

  1. Nice clip. Yeah makes me wanna hop on the carousel ..aaah to be a kid again..but the place is a ghost town and its a shame. Someone, somebody should do something and bring the excitement back in JP.

  5. At the risk of sounding sentimental and cheesy, if one were to REALLY look around Brunei, you'll see beauty everywhere (even the quite polluted waters of Kampung Air). I mean look at Reeda's pics - gorgeous! We just have to really see...We've been so habituated to Jerudong Park we've forgotten it's beauty. It's still there, we just have to look for it next time we go there. I've started to keep my eyes peeled for even mundane things to try to see some beauty in them .. :)

Body scrub, Brunei Stylie...

Attended a friend's bedak mandi (pre-wedding ceremony which involves a blessing by close family elders and a cleansing body-scrub) ceremony this afternoon and it brought back memories of my own bedak mandi all those years ago. What fun, a free body scrub performed by several family members, watched by even more family members! More pics here . Short rant: During the Microsoft Vista launch , both of us went in "business attire" as stated in the invitation. While trying to photograph the guest of honour, I was approached by one of the more seasoned photographers who asked me where I was from. I said I was an invited guest who happened to bring my camera. This is what he said to me, "Mana baju kot mu? Kalau jemputan duduk saja. Kalau mau buleh pulang ku panggil AO ni untuk membawa kau keluar." Yes, very Bruneian indeed matey. You could have just told me that its a requirement for photographers to wear a suit in the presence of royalty. No need to bite my head of...

Off to Stanford we go!

Yesterday while sending my old buddy Louis off at the airport, I met Charlene Bong and her family who were off to California where Charlene is due to begin her studies in Physics at Stanford University . Her dad (who's a fellow St.Margaret's Alumni) and I are friends and I could see the joy in his eyes when I spoke to him. I couldn't help feeling so proud of her for being the first Bruneian scholar to be awarded a scholarship to study in the US by Brunei Shell . Her long list of accomplishments include representing Brunei in the Asian-Pacific Children Convention in Fukuoka, Japan in 2000, SEAMEO Maths Olympiad in Penang in 2005, and the International Physics Olympiad in Singapore in 2006. Charlene was first featured in the Borneo Bulletin in 1989 for being the first baby to be conceived in Brunei through the IVF treatment. Charlene is one of the earliest IVF (test-tube) babies born in Borneo and her birth in December 1988 at Panaga Hospital was particularly significant at ...
